I have been feeling like nothing is real for about 2 years on and off for months at a time but I don’t have any other symptoms of other stuff I don’t know anymore

I experienced years long homicidal rage due to schizoaffective disorder and trauma, but even in psychosis I still knew not to actually do that

I have schizoaffective disorder. One time when I was in psychosis I wanted to hurt my mother. But I refused to. When I say that, it was because she had thrown a chair at me and broken one over my back. She’d slam my head into walls and she stabbed me at 15. The voices in my head kept telling me to hurt her back like she did to me, I shut everyone out, I was paranoid beyond belief. Yet I never attempted to harm her. I took it out on myself because the last thing I wanted was to hurt her or anyone. Psychosis is no excuse to harm someone else. BUT, it is also the psychs job to help us. When we are begging for help, it is the people around us who need to help us when we can’t help ourselves. Though it is not an excuse for not taking accountability for our actions in or out of psychosis

I feel like if someone is that yk crazy they should be put in a facility and get help but only is extreme cases and if they find out that anyone was lying they should get a worse sentence

I'm bipolar with phycotic features, she went and tried to get help, she was turned away every time and put on more medication that wasn't helping. I think if someone got the help she needed when she asked maybe this could be prevented, so I dont think shes solely responsible. ffs she told her husband about having thoughts of hurting the kids.

I don't know what to say. My mother was in Post partum psychosis when I was born and she did everything to get treatment and protect me. I'm forever thankful

The defense isn't trying to get her "freedom" the choices are prison for life or psych ward for life. That's the debate I think people forget or don't understand. There will be accountability regardless. she won't be allowed to walk ... well roll in her case I guess... free. she will be somewhere for life.

your response is really strange twin. from what i gathered its just "i got held accountable for things i had no control over doing so other people should too"? people cannot be held accountable for things they did not choose to do, because it is equivalent to not doing them in the first place. definitionally you cannot hold someone accountable for things they didn't choose to do. she should be helped not punished

this one was "one time", but thats not always the case. sometimes it happens multiple times before tragedy. but you are right, in psychosis or not, you are still held accountable for your actions.

I always say, it's a reason not an excuse. Does the fact that she was in a psychosis excuse her actions and earn her freedom? No. Does she need medical help so she doesn't put others in danger when in prison or whatever? yes, definitely.

It’s not excusable but she at least tried getting help, she was taking her meds as the dr told her, she was going across state lines to find inpatient care, & her husband knew of her thoughts/feelings/urges, she may have been in psychosis but he wasn’t.

I can’t say wether she should be sentenced. Like I think yes but also no. But what I do think is that her ex husband and the responsible parent of those children failed her and should be definitely on trial. I was in an abusive relationship when I developed schizophrenia and almost killed my self. I was very obviously unwell and my ex basically said don’t get blood on the floor. I genuinely believe in her very psychotic state that something triggered her to murder her kids as away to protect them from him. He is a sociopath. Either way, her life is ruined and she doesn’t deserve to be on trial in the way she is. Not saying she shouldn’t be held accountable, but that her trial should be private and quickly processed so she can find some peace.

i find it difficult to say maybe you need to have a psy... first where you hurt people. In my psy... i hurt many people some people i didnt even know and im still angry at me that i did that but the bottom line is i didnt do that bc i wanted to i have no memory and didnt wanted to do it. So should you get free? no. should you sentence be much lower? yes. the thing is (i dont know that case that good) if she didnt want to do it and the psy.. did it why punish her fully? Its like you are lucky that you dont hurt people at your psy... but some people do and they dont do it bc they want to. image waking up and releasing that you k your baby then hating yourself bc you dont know why youve done it and why it happend.

Atthetime of your psychosis would you say that you understood that killing children was against the law? That’s the question in the Lindsay Clancy trial. The state has to orove beyond a reasonable doubt she either didn’t understand that the law says you can’t kill your kids or she gad no control over ger actions.
