I often register the distress coming but have absolutely no idea what that emotion is, or why

Got diagnosed with "mild" alexithymia. I can identify emotions but I process them logically, not physically. People "feeling" emotions in their body is sooooo weird to me

I just wish I was able to cry. I can't unless I'm literally on the verge on a full blown breakdown or if an animal dies, I genuinely don't understand how people can just sit down, cry and let it all out

I remember every time my therapist would ask me while doing art therapy for example, she’d ask me “how do you feel now?” And I would look at her and be like “hmm idk “ and she’s like “neutral?” And like yea. Then she understood that most the time I just really don’t know what I feel😭

my very autistic response to this information was "ha! that doesn't apply to me because I can identify THREE emotions!... if you give me some time to concentrate... and a quiet enviroment..." 😅 it's sad, happy and frustrated

I read a beautiful example to explain it. It's like when you keep drinking alcohol because you don't feel drunk, but then everything comes over you all at once and you suddenly feel terrible. Look, it's as if we don't realize until the meltdown that everything is gradually starting to become too much.
