@delesign: One of the design hacks we keep coming back to: put a shape behind your content. A filled circle in a brand colour does two jobs at once. It fills empty space so the layout stops feeling thin, and it adds a layer of depth so the content in front of it lifts off the page. Swap the circle for a square or a triangle when the mood calls for it. The reason it works is attention. A shape behind an element quietly frames it, so the eye lands where you put the shape.
