Here are 5 red flags you need to look for before you sign anything: - One-sided indemnification — this means if anything goes wrong, you are legally on the hook, not the brand, and that is not something you can afford to overlook. - Free exclusivity — a brand is asking you to stop working with their competitors for free, which means they are restricting your income without compensating you for it. - Vague termination clause — if a brand can walk away at any time with zero consequences, you have zero protection, and that is a problem. - Vague payment terms — “we’ll pay you after the campaign” is not a payment term, and you should never start work without concrete net terms in writing. - No contract at all — if a brand asks you to start work before anything is signed, walk away every single time.
