99% of the marauders fandom believes fannon to be cannon, and when all the media they consume paints them in a good light and severus in a bad light, they accept it as cannon. meanwhile they give Regulus Sevs entire story 😆. "they matured" canonically no they didnt. sirius still cant help himself when it comes to insulting severus. and hey. james cant mature when hes dead. they also say severus was obsessed with Lily and yet James pursued her relentlessly and even tried to bribe her into going out with him in exchange he would stop bullying severus. peter has no spine, remus is just as bad and lets it happen because hes a werewolf who needs to have some "good" and respected people in his corner. sirius was still classist, mean, rude, and a Black minus the death eater affiliations. James is a rich pure blood from a good family and never had to work a day in his life and has done nothing but dine from a silver spoon that was handed to him- a classic rich prick. severus was poor, had to wear his mothers clothes, was abused and beaten by his father, watched his mother get beaten, he was malnourished and severely depressed. of course hes going to cling to the one light in his life (lily). he was hoping for a fresh start at hogwarts, only to be met with the exact torment he was running from, from four people instead of one.

a lot of Marauder and Harry potter fans are actually classist asf. they hate poorer characters like Snape and Ron yet love and defend characters like Sirius, James, Regulus, and BCJ. "Oh, it's bc James and Sirius grew up and matured!" ... James died before he could even properly mature and change and even if he lived, he would not have changed if Lily hadn't waited until he stopped being arrogant and a bully. and even then, James STILL hated Snape (and this is before Snape became a death eater) and Sirius barely matured, he was still a bitch in his adult hood, he was just less of a bitch when it came to people he cared about. and regulus was a death eater yet ppl like him more than Snape. "Oh, regulus defected and betrayed voldemort!" yeah, so did Snape, yet people still hate Snape for being a death eater while glazing actual death eater, a lot of which were death eaters til the day they died. and we see the same thing happen between Ron and Draco. people hate Ron for being mean to Hermione when Hermione was also mean to Ron, having sent a flock of sharp clawed birds to attack Ron just cause she was jealous. and Draco was also mean to Hermione, having called her a mudblood (which is a SLUR in the Harry Potter universe) not to mention Draco was a Death eater yet people still hate Ron and Snape more than actual bullies and death eaters. the fandom doesn't even hide their classism, they hate poor people, through and through

I hate the " But James and Sirius matured " argument because no tf they didnt? Sirius got out of azkaban and still picks fights with Snape and called him snivellus as if they were school children still. and James? we have no proof of that " But Lily married him " and? James harassed Lily for her entire hogwarts life she probably got fed up and just decided he was the best option and he died young. If they had truly matured they would've apologized and tried to make up for their actions but they never did. Snape hadnt done anything wrong as a TEENAGER ( yes he did some fucked up things as an adult we are talking about him as a teenager ) except exist something James himself said canonically. Snape was so excited to go to hogwarts and they made it hell they constantly told him he was gonna end up a death eater and then got mad he did? he joined the death eaters as a young adult he was probably 17 or 18 when he joined it was probably at that point the only thing he thought he could do with his life

the other factor with regulus specifically is that he canonically defected because he felt it was wrong, not because he had some guilt about some long lost “love”. snape canonically defected because of lily, not the values. it is intriguing to explore a character like regulus because there are a lot of possibilities that we’d never know. there’s more room for exploration and interpretation.

Marauders fans say they prefer them bc they can "explore their characters better," but I'm sorry, I find it WEIRDER to sympathize with DE and blood supremacists, whose views we don't even know if ever changed (and for some, we know they didn't), than with Severus, who we at least know regretted his actions and tried to redeem himself 😬... Besides, they themselves chose to reduce Snape to an obsessed guy who was born evil and who should have simply gotten over everything he went through.

as someone in the marauders fandom I find it ridiculous when people hate Severus for the same reasons they tend to love other characters (such as the ones listed) and also completely ignore the fact which the marauders ARE bullies and took things too far on multiple occasions

No me agradan los personajes que mencionas canonicamente (fueron mortifagos fieles, y regulus tendria sus intereses personales) y tampoco Severus. Pero creo que Severus es un buen personaje dentro de todo. Creo que se debe a su prematura muerte (excepto de barty) como no los conocimos de verdad la gente encuentra más facil tergiversar la realidad de lo que fue. Y si bien se conoce suficiente de ellos como para saber q no eran personas agradables, prefieren ignorarlo o llevarse por "huecos" o exageraciones basicamente. Y una preferencia a embellecerlos, idk ni regulus ni barty eran guapos a mi parecer y por como son descritos, pero si que se vuelven unos dioses en los fan arts y fanfics
