Scar care isn’t just about how my scars look. After a double mastectomy and three surgeries/revisions, my chest has been cut, closed, healed, and asked to rebuild itself over and over again. And every time my body heals, scar tissue enters the chat. 😅 Scar massage has become an important part of reconnecting with my chest and caring for the tissue beneath the surface. Gently mobilizing my scars can help with tightness, sensitivity, and the way scar tissue adheres to the layers underneath. Because scars don’t just exist on top of the skin. For me, there are areas of numbness. Areas that feel tight. Spots where the tissue feels thicker or less mobile. And after multiple surgeries, I’ve learned that healing doesn’t end when the incision closes. So I massage my scars. I move the tissue. I pay attention to changes. I learn the new landscape of my body. And yes, there is something incredibly intimate about caring for a part of myself that has survived so much. These scars are beautiful to me, but I still have to take care of them.
