i’m in the planning stages of my story, but i have a page in my notebook dedicated to the characters’ masks and when they wear them. one is apathetic to protect himself and gradually opens up to people and drops the mask. another’s mask is indistinguishable from her true self, even to her. my favorite character’s mask is a mix of dissociation and low grade panic bc of the second character i mentioned, who has a tendency to gaslight. character 3 is aware that’s he’s masking in a way that’s ruining his new relationships but he can’t stop himself due to the trauma character 2 caused him
