[SPOILERS] Ok so maybe it’s because I’m trans myself but I saw the whole movie as an allegory for being trans, with Peter and Jean being the stand ins for trans men and women respectively (as they are also foils on one another). I noticed it first when they revealed Jean and she had the stereotypical trans girl bangs (I doubt that was intentional but it stood out to me). Both characters lost everything because of some part of them that they couldn’t control but felt compelled to pursue, that being their powers. Both characters realize by the end of the movie that their powers don’t make them monsters and that they can both be themselves and embrace this new part of themselves that they are growing into.
