Come on! You make my insecurities worse!!! I grew up in Zimbabwe, lived in SA a little bit and moved to the US. The American slang that we know in Africa is a joke compared to whats on the ground here. I constantly sound like an English textbook!

Real, because why do people think speaking vernac automatically makes you less educated or “ghetto”? The language you speak doesn’t determine your intelligence, and code-switching doesn’t erase your education. If anything, being able to switch between different ways of speaking is a skill.

I’m in KZN and I’m working so hard to teach my son(6) Sesotho because it’s that important to me.Yes he does Afrikaans and English at school and he’ll pick up Zulu from friends but it is important that he speaks his mothers toungue

im pedi & i mostly speak english. whenever i speak vernacular i mix a bit of zulu,ndebele,tswana/spitori & sepedi. im trying to master atleast 1 of these languages because wdym i speak a little bit of everything but im not fluent in any 😭

Couldn’t agree more. Even giving black children white names. I will not be doing that. My children will have black names and they will be pronounced correctly! 🤞🏾

😂 it’s like they don’t believe being good at all languages can exist ! I have an English literature degree but I got A’s for all languages in high school!

I'm doing my teaching practicals at a private school , this one time l heard this little girl singing in Zulu l then asked ukuthi haybo kanti uyasazi isiZulu cause I've never heard her speak her native language , she replied eww what is that ? l don't understand . I was defeated cause wdym "eww"
