Personally I believe your right except they ain’t got their memories back yet, I think that MJ did get more but she is still gaining them back, while Ned’s memories still doesn’t remember much but he is gaining them back right after that handshake

no i think what happened is that because ned is just a legend but also he believes in magic. its a stretch but I think ned believes in magic so much that he could physically break the barrier between the spell that made everyone forget and the handshake was a way to finally break it. but mj didnt remember. she confirmed she doesn't remember him nor love him. but ned confirms he knows him by ofc saying "peter!" after the handshake which suggests that he knew peter Parker and not spiderman as he never did the handshake with spiderman after the spell was put out
