in the uk the family of the birthday child will put on a party. if you are older you arrange your own celebration. sometimes a partner of friend might do a suprise party, but more often than not, you invite people to celebrate at a place doing something you have chosen yourself. and the work cake. yes in the uk we also bring our own birthday cake. I am lucky I am christmas day baby so never worked my birthday, so never brought my own cake 🤣 I do see why its weird to bring your own cake though, I have often thought that.

En mi pais Chile se hace de las dos formas, el cumpleañero hace la fiesta e invita a familiares y amigos o se le hace una fiesta sorpresa al cumpleañero si es timido o es una muy buena persona jaja
