Update from G2: We were the last team to pull into Basecamp. Even when we were at the Ali camp, most teams were already on Camp 1 or heading for their summit push. By the time we finally got to the G1 & G2 base camp, our duffels with the main climbing gear were delayed even further—meaning we are quite literally the last ones to go. Given that Nikol is climbing without supplemental oxygen and her last 8,000m summit was nearly two months ago, we knew we had to take things steady and play it by ear. We were worried we’d miss the first summit window. We planned to start our summit bid just three days after arriving at basecamp, but playing it by ear on how everyone feels, we then managed to get to Camp 1 on the 18th. By then, most teams aiming for the summit on the 17th/18th had turned back because of deep snow above C3—but we decided to go ahead with our own plan. We (@eliteexped ) are working closely with the Sherpas from @imaginenepal —true teamwork in action, as always. Sherpas from Imagine Nepal literally came down from Camp 3 to Camp 1 to bring 400m of rope, and combined with our extra 400m, we now have 800m of rope to fix to the top. Current situation as we speak: right now we are at C3, and 2 Sherpas from Imagine Nepal and 2 Sherpas from Elite Exped are opening the route a bit further and try to pass the traverse part. They have said that the snow conditions are much better. We just hope the mountain grants us safe passage. I would also like to thank everyone who played a role in opening the route to Camp 3 and a little bit higher. We stay humble and allow nature to either give us a safe passage or not. 🙌🏽🙏🏽 #nimsdai #50plus8000msummits #highestnoof8ksummits #g2
