We’re doing RAP too! 🥰 Since we’re married, if you file your taxes jointly, they use your combined AGI to calculate your monthly payment. If you file separately, they only use your individual AGI. It definitely puts us in a different income bracket, but I believe the payment cap is still 10%.
We spent a lot of time researching it, and even though filing jointly means our monthly payment will be a little higher, we found that the overall tax benefits of filing jointly outweighed the savings we’d get from filing separately just to lower our RAP payment

I’m so happy I came across your account…I’m currently an undergrad on the pre med track, paying for my own school, and already stressed about student loans and affording all my school as well as being a first generation college student. It’s so comforting to see this and know it’s possible. Your page has encouraged me to keep going and keep pursuing this path. :)

Do they offer financial planning for physicians? It sounds like it should be a mandatory class.

I would def try to pay off as quickly as you can. Even just a little bit extra on them each month, helps. I paid off $67k of student loans last year as soon as I started my nursing career and it was so freeing and worth the hard work!
