@afrolatina_world: Replying to @ashleyshawesq I agree Why this dynamic happens 1. Identity insecurity Biracial people with a white mother often grow up: • In predominantly white spaces • With white family culture as the “default” • With less access to Black cultural socialization So when another biracial person especially one with a Black mother calls them out, it can hit an insecurity: “Am I Black enough? Do they think I’m not?” That insecurity can turn into defensiveness or emotion. 2. Different cultural upbringing A biracial person raised primarily by a Black mother often: • Has more direct access to Black cultural norms • Learns racial awareness earlier • Navigates anti‑Blackness from childhood A biracial person raised primarily by a white mother may: • Learn about race later • Experience “buffering” from anti‑Blackness inside the home • Have a different understanding of Blackness So when the second group is “called out,” it can feel like someone is challenging their lived experience or accusing them of ignorance. 3. Power dynamics inside mixed‑race identity There’s a subtle hierarchy that society imposes: • Biracial with white mother → often perceived as “closer to whiteness” • Biracial with Black mother → often perceived as “closer to Blackness” These aren’t truths — they’re social projections — but people internalize them. So when someone who is “read” as more culturally Black calls out someone who is “read” as more culturally white, it can feel like: • A loss of status • A challenge to authenticity • A reminder of privilege That triggers emotion. 4. Calling out feels like calling out privilege If the critique touches on: • Proximity to whiteness • Lack of cultural awareness • Colorism • Access to white family protection It can feel like someone is saying: “You benefited from whiteness.” Even if it’s true, people rarely react calmly when privilege is pointed out. 5. Family loyalty When someone mentions the white mother, it can feel personal. Biracial people often feel protective of the parent who raised them, especially if that parent is the white one. So a call‑out can feel like: “You’re criticizing my mom.” Which makes the reaction emotional rather than analytical. #BiracialIdentity #motherhood #letstalkaboutit
She actin like her mother 🤭 “you can be a little nicer”, tryna police her. She wasn’t being rude at all.

And if she was raised by a black mother she wouldn’t have never talked to that lady like that cause that’s her elder. She’s on defense

What’s interesting is she’s actually the one that’s raising her voice and being aggressive, but saying that the two women next to her asking her direct questions are being rude and condescending.

She's TRIGGERED by the mom question, and stayed in that stance. Im glad it was the mixed women who asked. But this is the source of her pain, until she confronts this, she's going to be defensive and combative. I wish her understanding, community and peace.

Now her energy is “rude” because ole girl tried to give a history lesson and got schooled. Like how are you getting defensive because she’s challenging your argument. It’s called a healthy discussion and all I’m seeing here is that she doesn’t feel supported but the other 2 ladies because they are simply challenging everything she is saying making her view these topics differently and she’s not ready for that. She wants them to be passive and talk to her like her mom would while she proceeds to be aggressive or passive agressive and extremely defensive and that right there is the mere difference.

I know a biracial person that was raised by a white mother, I had to tell them they were a person of color. There is a clear difference 😅

She kept proving their point over and over. But I get it, her identity has been questioned all her life. She was in protective mode and not in a space to listen and learn.

Say what you want but I like how she stands up for herself and articulates her point. The older lady was being condescending as hell

She probably came into this feeling like she needs to have her guard up or like she needs to defend herself even when it’s not an attack

I have a biracial son and I asked him the question of do think there's a difference 🧐 His reply was with black moms they teach you about the real world and how it works verses His biracial friends raised by yt mom teach things like they are somehow better because of their ytness.and thus doesn't do very well when speaking on black topics up to and including tone policing
