Shaving the beard is makruh according to the historical jamhur, and there is no evidence that a single outward sin disqualifies a man to lead the Salah, it is simply recommended that the imam be a man of either fiqhi knowledge or one with a beautiful voice

ScriptureLens :
God never says in the Qur’an that shaving the beard is haram. And even in the narrations attributed to the Prophet, he does not say, “Allah has forbidden shaving the beard.” What you find is an instruction: trim the moustache, leave the beard, and in some narrations the reason is stated openly — distinguish yourselves from the mushrikun or from the Majus, the Zoroastrians. So there is already a clear historical context of identity and distinction between communities. What happens later is that scholars interpret these narrations and turn that instruction into a legal ruling: “shaving the beard is haram.” Then further rulings are built on top of that, such as questioning whether a man who shaves should lead the prayer. That is exactly where I have a problem. A scholar is free to say, “In my interpretation, I consider this forbidden.” But that is not the same as saying, “Allah has forbidden this.” There is a serious difference between a divine prohibition and a human legal conclusion derived from a narration. When that distinction disappears, human interpretation starts being presented as if it were God’s own law.
