and that's why nuance and intersectionality is so important to learn and understand because people will lump a black woman who is being bioentialist into the exact same form of hatefulness as a white woman doing it when they come from two completely different places and therefore it's two completely different rationales and two completely different ways of talking to them and understanding. transphobia is never excusable but if I am encountering a black woman using biosentialism I will always personally be softer and more understanding than I will with a white woman just point blank. it's still not okay it's still not acceptable it's still not moral but it is not coming from a place of genuine entitlement is supremacy the same way it does from white woman it's coming from trauma and intergenerational trauma and this is my people need to be more informed

where is this 'worth' coming from? creating cetegories based on biology/science isn't bioessentialism. adding social attributes is. one side of this debate views woman as a biological category (at least indicatively), the other views it a 100% social category. this is the basis of the disagreement. the terms man/women say nothing inherently about worth. that's a social thing.

I think there's also a visibility issue. Speaking only for myself and only within tiktok, my feed is more likely to present me with an openly transphobic Black woman than an openly transphobic white anyone, because our other values are more likely to align, and I'll more readily block a transphobic white person, so any amount of transphobia among Black women will appear more common than in non-Black-women regardless of how much of an issue it is.

Oh this makes a lot more sense. I’ve been seeing a strange amount of transphobia from black women lately and it’s been confusing to me because I so often hear about black and other non white women being targeted by transphobes whether they’re cis or not.

even then bio essentialism practiced directly outside the black community does tend to undermine black womanhood just see how many black cis female athletes get called biological men and they site stuff like high testosterone as proof and that's not to even mention how race science is always hand in hand with bios essentialism so even if they are considered a woman they are not peak proper woman

I had never thought about this but this makes a lot of sense! It’s so easy to fall down a bioessentialist pipeline when you don’t fit the typical stereotype of what a woman is bcuz it’s based on whiteness

It's a great point I had never thought of it is similar to what you're saying but I think its also the common patern of the oppressed oppressing another minority for trying to appear as "the good ones" to the real oppressors

this is why people who look like me need to do more work in unpacking HOW these systems function as much as just recognizing dog whistles. Because it is also true that the LGBT+ community has massive issues with racism. I'm not excusing transphobia but Black women are supporting as system out of survival. That's different that yt women supporting transphobia to maintain power. This also shows up when yt people talk about gender, we don't bring racism into the conversation.
