barefoot and pregnant means being unable to run away from abuse. it's not an insult it's a THREAT made by husbands to their wives. If you are choosing that life then that is your CHOICE but many women in the past didn't have that same luxury. Feminism has given us the right to choose and we cannot take it for granted

I hate this term as it was a very real form of abuse men did and do practice on women. its what my granddad did to my granny. she ended up with 11 children. youre left barefoot- sometimes literal sometimes not- so that youre so financially insecure you couldnt hope to run away on foot. and pregnant, so that even moving was physically hard and you were tied up with the wellbeing of your other children. the stories ive heard about this reality are beyond horrifying. my partner and I had a realtor we hired that said that my partner should do this to me in a specific house we were looking at. and in that moment I knew we had to fire him. I felt gross even seeing or hearing him after that. im glad we dont have to work with him again.

Not only that being pregnant is a liability that keeps you trapped weak and unable to fight. When the baby is out your child is tied to the father. It’s a terrifying situation to be in. I hate how it’s romanticized
