Anyone else think the handhelds screw us out of tips?? I work behind the bar but take high tops sometimes, if I drop a credit card slip for $30 to $40 I’ll usually get a $10 tip. If I use the handheld, guests just hit the 20% for a tip. Never gonna complain about that but losing $2 to $4 on each table because of the handheld instead printed receipt, right?

If I have to say anything about the tip line I’m direct I will say “a tip prompt will pop up for you and then your all set” rather than acting like I don’t know what the “quick question” is most people prefer the honesty

As a server, I’ve noticed that people will tip more if you drop off the actually piece of paper for them to write down the tip.

one time a table didn’t like anything on the menu but already got drinks and were mad at me there was nothing for them to eat so he was trying to pay with the handheld and kept aggressively clicking no tip and missing so i had to do it for him

If your restaurant uses the little machine and I can’t hand you my card and then you bring me back a paper receipt I can fill out, it needs to be inside one of those machines that sit permanently on the table so that I can pay and tip at my leisure. If you have to hand that thing to me and then stand there and watch me tip, I’m selecting the smallest option provided because YOU are making this awkward for literally no reason. Walk away, why are you here? I know what needs to be done. I’ll do you one better, from now on, I’m selecting “no tip” at all places with the little machines where you gotta tip in front of the server. I’m going “no tip” till the servers complain enough to their bosses cause it’s RIDICULOUS.
