Oysters are living creatures, why would killing and eating them be considered vegan? Eating a non fertilized egg is more morally wrong than killing and eating an oyster?

careful i tried to explain this on a comment section about jellies and i, a marine life educator, got blitzed in the comments for days by ppl asking if the jellies had told me personally if they felt pain 😂 ppl who ate chicken nuggets at lunch are gonna be mad but your correct about these aninals not feeling pain

Love me some GOOD fresh oysters. It ruined it for me a little while when I bought 24 and they all had these little pearl crabs I think they’re called in them. They are supposed to be a delicacy but I just couldn’t enjoy them 😂😂😂

The term is “ostrovegan”, which is vegan plus shellfish. Depends on whether you define veganism as “no animals”, which an oyster is part of the animal kingdom scientifically, or “sentient”, which is less easy to define. Oysters don’t have a central nervous system and that’s the argument that eating oysters doesn’t violate the core principles of veganism which is to eliminate animal suffering.
