@savingdinner: Replying to @Miss Miami i’m very happy for you that your mom was able to live a good, healthy and vibrant life all the way to 90. But again that is the exception and not the rule. We have to do everything within our power to keep our house, bone strength, and all the rest of it. That’s why my page exists.
I think it depends on what some call exercise. My mom just turned 91 no meds no health problems, she gardens! She is always moving a wheel barrow or stacking wood. I am the same way. I just had a bone density done and results are great. I’m 62, and hike, stack wood and grow my own foods

We need to be talking about lifespan AND healthspan. You can live to 90 and be bedridden and weak.

Drives me crazy when people conflate anecdotes with clinical data results.

Living to 90 doesn’t mean thriving. Also maybe she would have lived to 100? Stay strong and limber!

it depends, I don't know of any women in my family who lifted weights and my grandma lived to 94, my great aunt her sister lived to 106, and my mom is still going in her early 80s, and other family members are/were long lived as well

That’s just like the people who say their grandma smoked and ate bacon and drank Diet Coke every day and made it to 90. They made it IN SPITE of bad habits.

Everyone gets to choose how they want to age. We also live in a very different world today, with more processed food, less daily movement, and more environmental stress than previous generations. Taking care of yourself—physically and mentally—isn't about fear. It's about giving yourself the best chance to stay strong, independent, and healthy for as long as possible. No one is forcing anyone. It's simply encouragement, and each person decides what they want to do.

I think when some of us when we retire take it too easy. I have one friend who retired from a job at a sports centre and promptly gained weight...she walks but she wont go to exercise because she needs to get fit first and then she got injured badly...its scary...she was so fit till retirement
