@kish_the_drum_of_busoga: Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, with respect, Ugandans are not fools. You are telling Ugandans to trust the judicial process and remain in Uganda to face the law. But before lecturing citizens about trusting the system, perhaps you should explain why so many Ugandans have serious concerns about how politically sensitive cases are being handled. Look at Dr. Kizza Besigye’s case. Is this really the example you want to use to convince Ugandans that they should simply trust the system without questioning it? When a case involves a prominent opposition figure, Ugandans have every right to ask whether the process is being handled fairly, transparently and independently. And what about Muwanga Kivumbi? His experience and the treatment he has spoken about should remind our leaders that citizens do not simply wake up one morning and lose confidence in institutions for no reason. Hon. Tayebwa, it is easy to sit in Parliament, enjoy the privileges that come with public office and speak to ordinary Ugandans as though their concerns are meaningless. You are enjoying money collected from the very taxpayers you are telling to simply trust the system.” Those taxpayers have a right to question the system. Nobody is saying that people should break the law. We are saying that the law must apply equally to everyone, including those in power and those who oppose them. If the judicial system is truly independent and fair, then criticism should not frighten anyone. Allow people to choose lawyers they trust. Allow lawyers to represent their clients without intimidation. Allow courts to operate independently. Let evidence determine cases not political influence. And please, don't reduce Ugandans living in Western countries to people who are “looking for sympathy and funding.” Many Ugandans abroad are working hard, paying taxes where they live, supporting families back home and contributing to Uganda's development. The question is not why Ugandans are speaking from abroad. The question is why some Ugandans feel safer speaking from abroad than speaking freely at home. Hon. Tayebwa, before telling Ugandans to trust the system, help fix the reasons why they have lost trust in it. Uganda deserves justice, not lectures. We are watching. We are asking questions.
