In Springfield, Ohio, ICE has shifted tactics to rapid raids and ankle monitors as thousands of Haitians face life without Temporary Protected Status. Some Haitians are staying home, afraid to go to work, shop for groceries or attend church. Others are reporting to ICE offices near Cincinnati, where many have returned wearing ankle monitors and facing travel restrictions. Parents are preparing for the possibility of family separation by arranging power of attorney and temporary caregivers for their children. At the same time, Springfield’s churches, faith leaders and volunteers are building a growing support network — packing food and hygiene supplies, offering legal help and rides, helping families complete paperwork and preparing to care for children if their parents are detained. “They choose the ankle shackles because the whole world, they know going back to Haiti is being placed in a death sentence,” said James Pepitho Fleurijean of the Haitian Support Center. For Springfield’s Haitian community, faith has become both a refuge and part of the infrastructure helping families endure what comes next. #immigration #tps 🔗 For the full story, visit religionnews.com.
