I moved to Mayo over 20 yrs ago and im from Kerry (the team they played) and soon learnt all about the curse, this win affected every genuine fan of the sport, my dad was there on the day and he waited to see Mayo lift Sam, I am so delighted Mayo folk got to experience this,.such an emotional day for those who waited so long and for those who didn't live to see it they were in their families thoughts that day. and it was actually 13 finals as there was 2 replays that were draws, so came so close b4.. I happily went to a few of the homecomings and celebrated this amazing experience with Mayo.

I am 67. I am from Mayo. That was certainly the curse we heard. The last player alive wasnt sure about the curse. He did remember being in the back of a lorry which had large sides (what we call cribs - this was like a timner frame with timber cross members) It was the precurser to an open top bus. This lorry was passing through the town of Foxford. He remebered a large crowd standing outside the church, but could not remeber seeing whether it was a funeral or not. But even if it was they would not have been able to come off the lorry. Anyway for us it appeared that there was a curse. We had several of the 11 games only losing by a point (1 score) 2 games went to a replay. 1 game in which the winning point was a freak were the ball bounced over the crossbar. 1 game were thir was 2 own goals in the 1 game and they lost by only 1 point. This NEVER happened before or since. We had days of cobstant celebrations, the likes if which we never saw before. Every town has gone beserk. The joy I have witnessed we will never see again absolutely pure happiness.
