Used to be hands-on plumbing. If you saw the inside components of one of those, quite the elaborate green board inside. This dude could be correct. You don’t need that kind of tech to flush a toilet.

Those use inferred leds not a camera. It detects when something is in front of it by sending a beam of light and using another ir sensor to read the reflected light back off of it. depending on the strength of the reflection it’s able to determine when you get up from the toilet.
