omfg people in here saying"nurses don't diagnose" WE KNOW but we have always been taught disease process and presenting symptoms. because as a nurse you are LOOKING for signs to report. especially between rounds. wtf has happened to nurses? are nurses just mindless robots? because I'm not. nurse for 32 years and i often have an idea even before a diagnosis is confirmed

As an ER doctor, it has been my experience that it’s more often times excessive long term alcohol use. Gallstones is second. Well done presentation. Really enjoyed it.

Why would a nurse exam ask about a diagnosis? Nurses are not diagnosticians they treat symptoms

Diagnosis is the PHYSICIAN'S JOB.
The guessing what is wrong ... is what is being pushed , but NURSES have training and can identify much , but nonetheless CANNOT DIAGNOSE and I AM AGAINST the push to semi do so

IV League for Nursing Students :
The new NCLEX now requires students to analyze a case study, pick their top diagnosis based off the information given, and answer 5-6 questions based off that diagnosis. That’s why my case studies follow this exact format. This does not mean going into the patients room and delivering them a diagnosis. It means the nurse is able to analyze patient data and formulate likely diagnoses so they know when s/sx/labs/etc are dangerous and can triage appropriately and notify the physician appropriately. This is the new expectation for the NCLEX they are required to take before licensure.

My recommendation is to allow the attending determine the diagnosis.
