Leadership Is a Responsibility, Not a Trophy This image has sparked many conversations about the ethnic background of some occupants of important public offices in Nigeria. Whether one agrees with every detail or not, it raises an important question about leadership and responsibility. If a significant number of these key positions are indeed occupied by fellow Yoruba sons and daughters, then this should not be seen as a reason for celebration alone. It should also be seen as a greater responsibility. History does not remember people because they held powerful offices. History remembers what they did with the power entrusted to them. If this generation of leaders has been given the opportunity to serve Nigeria, let them use that opportunity to build a nation where justice is upheld, corruption is reduced, insecurity is tackled, the economy is strengthened, and every Nigerian—regardless of tribe, religion, or region—can live with dignity and hope. The success of any government should never be measured by the ethnicity of those in office, but by the quality of life of the people they serve. My message to our Yoruba brothers and sisters in positions of authority is simple: write your names in history through integrity, fairness, competence, and service to all Nigerians. Let future generations say that when your people had the opportunity to lead, they chose to unite the country, rebuild institutions, and leave Nigeria better than they found it. The same expectation applies to every leader from every ethnic group. Leadership is a trust, and Nigeria belongs to all of us.
