@painterofthefall: This time I wanted to paint a Dark Angel. Citadels Dark Angels Green was lying around for so long and I never used it. I should have seen it as a hint to keep it that way. In the middle of the progress I‘ve noticed that it‘s just too dark and I also totally messed up the „edge highlights“ if you wanna call it like that. Lucky me - I‘ve found a nice dark green in my Warpaint Fanatics drawer and tried to rescue that guy. Still far from perfect but better than begore. Lesson(s) learned. 😄 #warhammer40k #warhammer #miniaturepainting #spacemarines
I’ve been painting my dark angels yellow before using dark angel green and I don’t think it comes out the worst

Only my 4th mini but I heard that dark angels green was kinda rough. I’ve been trying 2/3 caliban green with 1/3 nocturne green for the base, and mixing caliban green with the army painter wild green for different shades. I think I can go a bit lighter for edge highlights next time though

I had the same problem for my Black Templars. The Black Templar contrast is very dark so I just ended up swapping to a Vallejo black. Much easier to work with. You could probably get similar results if you thin the contrast but you’d have to use contrast medium I imagine

I ran into the exact same issue on my first 2 dark angels (salamander in the middle) wasn’t until the third on that I had it down

Not bad, contrast paints are very different and require a different workflow. Try dry brushing light grey, and then white. The dark angels green needs a lot of bright highlights to pop. You can also prime white, build up from there. It’s a good start, keep painting.

Honestly the best dark green I ever got for dark angels and black orcs was dark angels green (old GW before contrast) with purple ink then highlight it back up from there.

Dark angels green is possibly the most useless purchase I ever made. My current recipe for dark angels armor is just black prime then just applying caliban green followed by moot green with the egg™. Turns out something like this

Personally I think Dark Angels green is a bit ....Dark. I mix with a lighter green contrast, 2 to 1. but its personal preference

i have the same problem with bl00d angel contrast. I think you should prime white and then apply the contrast.
