@.dr.intobesa.2: There are 5 types of Buddhists, namely: Kulabuddhabhasawin, Labhabuddhabhasawin, Bayabuddhabhasawin, Saddhadhikabuddhabhasawin, and Panyadhikabuddhabhasawin. 1. Kulabuddhabhasawin: A Kulabuddhabhasawin refers to a traditional Buddhist. Because one's father and mother are Buddhists, the children become Buddhists. Having become a Buddhist without knowing why the Buddha attained enlightenment, without knowing what the Buddha taught and advised, without knowing why one should worship the Buddha they revere, without knowing why one should revere the Buddha's teachings, and without knowing with what purpose and why one pays such respectful homage to the Buddha statues while simply doing as one pleases and possessing no personal wisdom whatsoever—such a Buddhist is called a Kulabuddhabhasawin. 2. Labhabuddhabhasawin: A Labhabuddhabhasawin refers to a Buddhist who worships for the sake of gains and profits. Selecting and worshiping Buddha statues with the thought of whether worldly prosperity will increase in this life—such as choosing to worship this specific Buddha statue believing it will bring abundant wealth, or choosing to worship that Buddha statue believing it will boost business—is called being a Labhabuddhabhasawin. 3. Bayabuddhabhasawin: A Bayabuddhabhasawin refers to worshiping out of fear of dangers. Harboring thoughts of worshiping the Buddha in order to be safe from hazards and perils, and to live a long and healthy life, is called a Bayabuddhabhasawin. These first 3 types—Kula, Labha, and Baya Buddhists—are referred to as lower-tier Buddhists. Because they possess weak inner awareness and spiritual realization, they are types of Buddhists who are very easily deceived and manipulated by fraudulent individuals. 4. Saddhadhikabuddhabhasawin: A Saddhadhikabuddhabhasawin is grounded in faith. Faith means having a genuine, heartfelt belief in the Triple Gem: the Buddha, the Dhamma, and the Sangha. It is also necessary to place one's belief through correct and proper methods. There are two kinds of faith: genuine faith, and mistaken faith (micchā-saddhā) tied to incorrect methods. Believing through correct and proper methods means recognizing that the Fully Enlightened Buddha, who perceived the Truth, taught the Four Noble Truths out of supreme loving-kindness and compassion for all sentient beings, just as He knew them; the Sangha safeguards the Three Baskets (Tipitaka); and one trusts the Sangha—these constitute the correct faith in the Triple Gem. They recognize what has true essence as having essence. They know what is right as right. Aside from their own understanding, they avoid evil and practice the path of righteousness; possessing right faith (sammā-saddhā), they are Saddhadhikabuddhabhasawin. 5. Panyadhikabuddhabhasawin: A Panyadhikabuddhabhasawin refers to a Buddhist who truly and clearly knows the Truth. A Panyadhikabuddhabhasawin believes in the Buddha's teachings not through blind and reckless guessing, but by knowing them clearly through inner bodily and mental insight. Knowing in this manner is called being a Panyadhikabuddhabhasawin. Knowing the Four Noble Truths clearly through wisdom, and knowing the nature of arising and passing away (impermanence)—when asking whether the rising and passing away is seen by the physical body or by wisdom, it is seen by wisdom. Such a Buddhist is called a Panyadhikabuddhabhasawin. There are practices like making foundations for seeds of suffering in the lower realms (apāya); if one wishes to stop them or prevent them from yielding bad results, what must one cut them off with? They must be cut off with wisdom. In a person whose path-consciousness is anchored in arising and passing away through such wisdom, both faith and wisdom are present. This is the combination of Saddhadhika and Panyadhika Buddhists. It is necessary for faith and wisdom to be in balanced equilibrium. If faith is excessive and wisdom is deficient, one becomes a foolishly pious and arrogant person.
