BACKGROUND STORY About 13 years ago, Nana Assi-Kofi, leader of the Twoa (Dog) Family Allegedly released a large parcel of land to the Jomoro District Assembly for the construction of a new market. However, the Assembly did not immediately develop the land. During the delay, some members of the Twoa Family allegedly sold about 80% of the land to private individuals. Many of the buyers subsequently built houses and have lived there for nearly a decade. After securing funding for the market project, the Assembly moved to reclaim the land, only to find it occupied by residents. The dispute was taken to court, where both parties presented their cases. The court has now ruled in favour of the Jomoro District Assembly, paving the way for the demolition exercise currently underway to allow construction of the new market.
