@literallyroger: the show mischaracterised roger so much. i don’t care what you say, it’s the truth. roger isn’t “misunderstood” or whatever. he is literally a psychopath and a murderer. i love the series but personally i think they made roger’s character seem more “kind at heart” by adding that stupid scene where he helps jack on the cliff. that scene made zero sense, if that seen had to be added maurice should of been the one to help jack. i truly believe that you should read the book as the series looses so much of the original meaning. #lordoftheflies #lotf #rogerlordoftheflies #viral #blowthisup

This is unrelated to the topic, but I'm extremely curious about how Roger and Maurice became friends, because it even seems strange that Roger has a friend.😔

I also have no clue why they made him talk so much. It’s not like it even added anything of substance. His face when they killed the pig showed his character better than any of the lines they gave him.

i feel like the show didn’t make him ‘kind at heart’ at all, rather it showed a clear contrast between maurice and roger. for example, when jack kill the sow, maurice looks as if he regrets his actions, meanwhile roger is smiling and showing no remorse. to be honest i think the ‘wall climbing scene’ just shows that roger is jack’s second hand, and he’s feeding into his ego (others may think roger is just feeding his own ego by repeating the same phrase over and over to jack, you can see later in jack gets annoyed and says ‘i know’). i do agree that the show mischaracterized roger on certain aspects, but i don’t think his evilness was one of them. the reason you may think that is because he was just more charismatic in the show, rather in the book he had this mysterious feature to him. but i don’t think the shows characterization on rogers evilness is to blame for why people say he’s ’misunderstood’ (i mean the show takes him throwing rocks at the littluns’ right from the book.. if they were making him seen ‘misunderstood’ i don’t think they would choose that scene from the book). anyways… back to what i was saying, i think it’s because roger is played by a conventionally attractive actor. if he was played by a not very attractive actor based on beauty standards, i think people would not be calling him ‘misunderstood’ at all. not to mention the people who are calling him ‘misunderstood’ are probably little kids who haven’t read the book and are only interested in the actor.

I feel like a lot of the people who say the character of Roger or even Jack and Maurice are misunderstood haven’t touched the book. In the book Roger is quiet and keeps to himself and its the violence that brings him out of this shell. He’s literally used as a symbol of society restraining humanity with rules and when those rules disappear or he’s able to overpower them the true desires come out so he goes mad from being able to fulfill all this violence and pain

you mentioned the scene of him helping Jack, and I'd like to talk about how I see that scene!!to me, him having the courage to go first and knowing how to help Jack without him refusing help makes a lot of sense from a psychopath's point of view.. they understand people and what people expect of them, he's seen as part of Jack's group of friends, so he'll do what's expected of him, while Maurice reacts like a normal person about to witness an accident— he freezes. Roger doesn't have that feeling, he just does what's expected to maintains appearances and his position in the group 🙂‍↕️psychopaths like to be part of something, but not necessarily a position of power. and w Jack in charge, he could do whatever he wanted because Jack would always agree with him,, and the others wouldn't question something Jack agreed to.

you can see it in his eyes when he first kills the pig because he looks pleased and thrilled from murdering something, also he completely nerfed piggy 😭
