What changes as you age is the epigenome the layer of chemical instructions that tells your genes when to turn on or off. On January 28, 2026, the U.S. FDA cleared ER-100 to begin its first human clinical trial. The therapy will be injected into the eye to evaluate its safety and potential effectiveness for treating optic neuropathies. This is the first partial cellular reprogramming therapy to enter human testing. While the results in animals have been promising, it is important to remember that this is an early Phase 1 clinical trial, designed primarily to assess safety. Whether it will work in humans remains unknown.
