@velar.hs: "The day I became a general, I felt capable of changing the world." // #greatness #napoleonbonaparte #france #virall #fyp Napoleon Bonaparte became a brigadier general on 22 December 1793, at the age of 24, after his decisive role in the Siege of Toulon. His artillery strategy helped force the British fleet to withdraw, earning him rapid promotion and recognition as one of France's most promising young officers. In 1796—when he was 26 years old—Napoleon was appointed commander of the Army of Italy. Although many of his soldiers were poorly equipped and outnumbered, he inspired them with bold speeches, strict discipline, and daring tactics. His first Italian campaign quickly transformed him into one of Europe's most respected military leaders. As a general, Napoleon was exceptional. He moved his armies with remarkable speed, concentrated his forces at decisive points, and often defeated larger enemy armies through superior planning and timing. His ability to read the battlefield—and adapt within minutes—became one of his greatest strengths. Historians widely regard Napoleon as one of the greatest generals in history. His victories at battles such as Lodi (1796), Arcole (1796), and Rivoli (1797) established his legendary reputation—and laid the foundation for his future rise to become Emperor of the French.
