And Ephrem wasn't the first to notice God does this. Ephrem, without knowing any of that, wrote: "In your beauty is depicted the beauty of the Son who clothed himself in suffering: nails went through him. Through you the awl passed, you too did they pierce, as they did his hands. But because He suffered He reigns, just as your beauty is increased through your suffering." And on Peter diving into the water: "Men stripped their clothes off and dived and drew you out, pearl! It was not kings that put you before people, but those naked ones... the poor and the fishers and the Galileans. For clothed bodies were not able to come to you."
