i promise that you absolutely do not have to do AA/NA meetings to get sober. the 13 steps is just an option, but there's also a thousand different ways to get sober!! i alsays relapsed doing the 12 steps. i finally found what personally works for me. don't feel pressured thinking that AA is the only way i swear to you its not.

Everyone’s different but AA/NA didn’t really work for me personally. I think it only helped a bit in the beginning as it was nice to talk to others going thru similar things but beside that it didn’t really help me stay sober. It’s not the only path to recovery/sobriety.

Here to suggest SMART Recovery and Recovery Dharma if you don’t feel comfy with 12step. I don’t like a lot of 12 step groups, so I find making a point to meetup for other things to fill that need. Yes, I don’t always want to go be around people but I do it anyways. Whether that’s some type of meeting or hour of climbing with friends, etc. It’s almost more about structure and creating new habits

Yes girl!! Go to the AA meetings and do the 90 in 90!! Get a sponsor and start working the steps!! I promise you will get so much relief from doing this. I hated it at first as well but I promise it gets better. I am proud of you ❤️

You can feel hatred for AA, you also can realize that it will hold you accountable at least with people who understand you💗

Have you considered a halfway house?? I’ve found people who stay in a program for 6 months to a year have the best long term success rates!

Find DIFFERENT meetings!!! Do you have the meeting guide app? Chair icon. Try all different kids. They differ so much. I’ve found some I love and adore, some I hate.

You may already know this but if 12 step programs aren’t for you, consider checking out SMART recovery or Celebrate Recovery meetings. Similar concept but different approach. At the end of the day, it’s about building a sober community you can lean on so wherever you find that, lean in! I have a good feeling about this time for you, you got this girlie! ✨💕

if you don’t feel like AA is a fit for you, SMART Recovery is a good alternative, and finding a group of people who you feel comfortable with and supported by is the most important!!

i’ve known ppl who go to AA but don’t buy in to the whole hoopla of the higher power and whatnot but it helps to have the community around it. You can take what’s helpful for you and leave the rest behind, it’s your journey after all :))

"in rehab anyways" girl you crack me tf up. Just remember aa is not the only option out there! I would recommend something that involves peer support whatever it is, community is essential. (like those lovely friends you made) I tried aa for my first few sobriety goes and it didnt work for me. everyone is different. love you, so extremely proud of you!

I’m SO happy to see this update. I hated AA in the beginning and kept going and found my besties. It was just nice being in a room full of people trying to better their lives. And I loved getting to see other people pick up their chips each month and see their growth. Now I do it for the women on day one who need someone like me to believe in them

So happy to hear from you queen! Idk how you feel about switching programs but my therapist has spoken very highly of a program called smart recovery! Your journey is your own and I think it’s amazing to see your commitment to sobriety and health and all the good things 💕

If you don’t want to go to meetings in person, there’s a website called in the rooms and it has a bunch of online meetings. I used it and actually really liked it. Just a suggestion!

I’m so glad you’re doing well and you have a group of sober friends that you can hang with! And I totally understand not loving AA - as a sober gal who never went to AA myself. But it’s ok to just use it as a form of accountability! We’re all rooting for you 💖
