STOP getting HIT | After your 1-2 One of the biggest mistakes in boxing is thinking the combination ends when the punches land. That's we call ADMIRING your work. The exchange isn't over until you've taken away your opponent's counter. Here are 6 defensive exits to keep you safe while putting you in position to attack again. 👇🏻 🥊 1. 1-2 → Slip Back Instead of slipping sideways, pull your rear hand and elbow back into the holster. That simple movement shifts your weight back onto the rear leg and naturally takes your head from the left side back to the right. Small movement. Big defensive reward. 🥊 2. 1-2 → Side Step Step diagonally back to your right. You're not just moving sideways, you need to take a little distance away too. This takes you off the centre line while making straight counters and chasing jabs fall short. 🥊 3. 1-2 → Shoulder Roll One of my favourites. Lift and turn the lead shoulder as the rear hand comes back at you. The beauty of the shoulder roll is that it keeps you in range. You defend the shot without giving away your own countering opportunities. 🥊 4. 1-2 → Roll Lower your level underneath the left hook. Don't roll straight across. Aim underneath your opponent's lead armpit so you finish in a position where you can immediately fire back. 🥊 5. 1-2 → Slip & Shift Pike/slip after your cross, then keep the movement going. Bring the rear foot in, shift the lead foot around and create a brand-new angle. Keep motion in the ocean. Don't let the defence stop the movement. Use it to reposition and take control of the exchange. 🥊 6. 1-2 → Cross Step Keep your head on the right side as you throw the 1-2, then cross step with the lead foot to cut the angle. Set this up by throwing a few conventional 1-2s first. When your opponent expects your head to travel the usual route, change it. Miss the counter, create the angle and stay in perfect range to punish them. Landing the 1-2 isn't the goal. Landing it and leaving safely is. Don't admire your work. Defend. Reposition. Then make your opponent pay. ✅ #boxingtips #boxingtraining #padwork #boxingdefence #boxingcoach
