@nihismos: Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881–1938) was a Turkish field marshal, revolutionary statesman, and the founding father of the Republic of Turkey who permanently reshaped the geopolitics of the early 20th century. After gaining national prominence in World War I for his decisive command during the Gallipoli Campaign (1915), he launched the Turkish War of Independence in 1919 to resist the Allied partition of Anatolia. Establishing the Grand National Assembly in Ankara in 1920, Atatürk orchestrated the military victories—including the Battle of Sakarya (1921) and the Great Offensive (1922)—that annulled the Treaty of Sèvres and secured recognized sovereignty via the Treaty of Lausanne in 1923. As the republic's first president, he executed a comprehensive modernization program that transformed a shattered empire into a secular nation-state by abolishing the Sultanate and Caliphate, adopting European legal codes, introducing a Latin-based alphabet, and granting full political rights to women, leaving behind a modernized republic upon his death in 1938. #kemalizm #historytok #historyedit #atatürk #atatürkedit
