It reminds me of "the four agreements" book which says something similar. That we are conditioned by those who raised us so when we are 18, we are not "free" even if we are "adults" because we have been conditioned during our entire childhood. We are now the ones diminishing ourselves because those opinions we heard when kids, are now living in our heads, and worse, believed by us

I wrote my dissertation building on this idea. There is a theory called "mimetic desire" by René Gerard, I applied it on Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Grey ! and at the end of my presentation I used the same quote ❤️it means a lot to me, i enjoyed every minute working on it
