Gravity isn’t a force pulling things like an invisible rope. It’s what happens when mass changes the shape of space and time around it. In this animation, the large sphere represents a massive object like a planet or star. Its mass curves spacetime more strongly, which is why the grid bends deeper near it. The smaller sphere still bends spacetime, just less, because curvature depends on energy and mass. Nothing is “being dragged” downward, objects simply follow the straightest possible paths through a curved geometry, called geodesics. When the smaller sphere orbits, it isn’t fighting gravity. It’s moving forward while spacetime itself is curved, so its path becomes a loop instead of a straight line. The deeper the curvature, the tighter the orbit.
