Gen X here, we grew up standing/saying every day, for basically our entire life. I don’t see the difference between that and Hitlers heil anymore. Both adoration for the government and country. Our government isn’t serving its people anymore.

as an australian, this is so so strange to me!! we wouldn’t even sing the australian anthem very frequently in school. america is a cult & you cannot convince me otherwise

i stopped standing for the pledge in 9th grade. it’s because of the line, “with liberty and justice for all.” my homeroom teacher tried to force me to stand for it and i refused.

When I got to JR Highschool I refused to stand and recite the pledge. I was pushed hard by my 1st period teacher to do it for almost 1 month I never stood until the principal told me if I didn’t stand and recite it I would have to sit outside the classroom until it was over. I said OK!

Mind u i dont even remember learning the pledge of allegiance, my memory only goes back to just knowing it as if its just a natural part of my being like its genuinely so crazy

Yup, I woke up to it just a few years ago. I've told my boys that they don't owe their allegiance to any flag, state, or country.

something i also find strange as a european whos consumed so much american media is that from what i remember they never normally include this ritual in their media they export internationally which im pretty sure is because they KNOW other countries will view it as weird and cultish

A national anthem being played BEFORE a game is a US thing, and it's creepy af. Even in the Olympics the anthem of the team that won gold is only played during the medal ceremony. They didn't do it at other world cups, either, but this one hosted in the US did. It's a propaganda machine, and the only country more propagandized than us is committing genocide in Gaza.

I stopped standing for the pledge in Highschool and my teacher passive aggressively made a power point on why we stand for the pledge… I don’t stand for the pledge for obvious reasons but I have volunteered my time to help my local community for a fundraiser for veterans many years in a row and we used to attend a 4of July event at the local navy base and I volunteered my time to help with that as well once I was 16… when I told her this and asked her what she does beside stand for a pledge her flabbers were gasted 🤣🤣
