Spoiler alert: it is an actual camera. And 9 times outta 10 if someone is telling you it’s not, they are lying. Also, they are editing off TikTok, in CapCut/Final Cut/or iMovie. Most people upload at 4k because TikTok automatically compresses the video to 1080, and it is recommended you upload to TikTok desktop as opposed to app. That and just in app sharpening/clarity and lots of lighting while filming.

Everyone is gate keeping in the comments. Additionally with good light and back camera , It’s the export settings in CapCut that is corrupting the clips. Film 4k 30. Export is 1080,30,100. People say 4k 60 but that’s for long sweeping slow motion clips.

It’s lots and lots of huge soft light and a regular iPhone (back camera). Don’t buy anything, just find a window without direct sunlight (or on a cloudy day), and face the light head on. The abundance of ambient light will both smooth out the skin, and allow the iPhone’s small camera sensor to pick up every detail.

Coming from someone who’s spent a small fortune on gear and film school, it’s 90% lighting, 10% camera. Use natural light as much as you can, find a big bright window, grab a cheap reflector. Think in terms of Key (the window), fill (reflector), and back (the lighting behind you, called the kick light because it separates the subject from the background. That can be anything). But if you buy any lighting, don’t fall into the trap and buy the cheapest brightest light. You want big, bright, diffused, and high CRI if you care about skin tones. For your phone, record 4k 60fps, pick a better standard color profile. 99% don’t need a professional camera, just good bright diffused lighting. The more light you give that tiny phone sensor, the sharper and cleaner the image (low iso). Step up the quality more with the FinalCut camera app if you really want. Oh, composition matters physiologically more than ppl think too! There’s your film school 101

I have an iPhone 17 promax and I use Cinematic mode with the settings like this according to chatGPT Set your f-stop first: Put it between f/2.0 and f/2.8 for that smooth blur. 2. Tap and hold on your face: Lock the focus on yourself (you’ll see AE/AF LOCK appear at the top). 3. Drag the EV/Sun slider slightly down: Dial it down just a bit (around -0.3 or -0.7). You’ll immediately notice your skin tone looks richer and the product details pop more against the background.
