because assuming every outspoken feminist is a lesbian is harmful to not only lesbians but women in general.

because making Eloise a lesbian would just play into the man-hating lesbian stereotype more. she's not lesbian, she's a woman who hates that she doesn't get to do the same things men do just because of her gender, hates the pressure society puts on young girls like her. i haven't read the books yet, but I've heard that the show completely changed Fran's character, and now that she's a very autistic-coded character, they could beautifully showcase that she felt out of place in her family not only because of her personality, but also because of her sexuality, and since mothers kept their girls in the dark about all aspects of sexuality, she doesn't even know that being into other women is an option, she just thinks there's something wrong with her. I think if they treat her story with the care it deserves, it will be absolutely beautiful, so much more than the cheap, "obvious" choice of making Eloise a lesbian would've been.

Because it’s important to see that Eloise chooses to dislike men and that it’s not about her sexuality but more her mentality

Because the soft and shy very feminine girls can be LGBTQIA+, and the outspoken feminists can be straight ☺️so imo it's one of Netflix's best decisions

if eloise was gay it would seem like her opinions on society are because she’s gay and not because there is in fact something wrong with her society. francesca being gay means what it means, love.

It's all well and good to include that nowadays, but none of the characters in the book are lesbians. Actually, it's important to the story that Francesca marries a man.

Why? It wouldn't make any sense for Eloise to be a lesbian. Just because she's a feminist, isn't afraid to speak her mind, and doesn't like men or marriage doesn't mean she should be a lesbian

Because not every feminist is a lesbian, that's the point. She won't submit to a man, but that's not because she doesn't like them
