As a kid I hated this, but in retrospect I should have just accepted it, knowing full well when I left for university I could grow it out. Of course, I was wary about what sort of jobs would be funny about my long hair (quite frizzy as well) but that was never a problem again. Glad I live somewhere that people don't really give a shit about it and it isn't even seen as eccentric any more.
