My issue is: if the goal is to recognize Japanese, Chinese, or other Asian artists, that's great—but why should they compete in a category defined by where they're from instead of alongside everyone else? There isn't a "Best European Pop Performance" or "Best North American Pop Performance." Segregating artists by continent isn't equality.Especially when only a few Asian countries would be eligible what about countries like Singapore whose official language is English? Secondly, the timing is telling. The Recording Academy didn't introduce this category while BTS were inactive due to military service. It announced it in June 2026, just after BTS returned as a full group and became Grammy contenders again after their comeback.The Grammy didn't feel the need to award Asian artists when BTS was in the military.

not only that but to be eligible they’re required to have their song in an Asian language. So, their two title tracks from their latest album Arirang, Swim and Normal, wouldn’t even be eligible for the award because they’re in English. But that doesn’t even matter, the Grammys and America continuously uses them and tries to undermine their impact by pulling ridiculous and xenophobic stunts like this. I remember going to school in 2017 and telling my friend that BTS was performing at the AMAs and she told me “if they’re not American, they shouldn’t be allowed to perform or be nominated” and it’s frustrating to see this is still happening at an even larger scale now

I’m ARMYish. I love BTS, I’m not as deep in the fandom as I used to be. The claim and I agree is that the Grammys used BTS in the past to increase their ratings. They did multiple performances at the Grammys only to not win but get invited back everytime. At the end of the day BTS doesn’t owe the Grammys anything. They are already famous worldwide and don’t need an award to prove that. They are also famously disrespected at American award shows. Not all of the members are fluent in English and as such reporters and photographers treat them as lesser or “stupid” and have made degrading or nasty comments in the past or just made them uncomfortable. At its core, music is music and to keep dividing categories feels like division when music is supposed to unite people. When separating the categories you also pit like genres against eachother as if they aren’t all on the same level of greatness as the rest. What used to be an honor is just an award show trying to make more money and more views.
