I want to hear your insider DA perspective on how this process operates for someone who is deep in their avoidance and existing inside a romantic relationship while facing this. Do you think DAs have self-worth before any healing occurs? If yes, where did that self-worth come from, developmentally speaking? Not autonomy, self worth, intrinsic value. And how would you compare the self-worth of a DA to that of a secure person? What does self-worth actually look like and feel like internally for each? Then, specifically within the scenario you’re describing, I’m curious about the mechanisms involved for the DA. What is happening internally when they’re met with a potential competition while romantically invested in a partner? What is their relationship to their own self-worth in that moment, and what is the relationship between their actions and the mechanisms underneath that action- is it self-worth or their protective strategies? If we start with the secure person as the baseline and then look at each insecure side from there, I think it’s relatively easy to see what’s happening with someone whose insecurity is more externalized. What I’m hoping to understand is the less visible side of that process: what are the internal mechanisms operating for the DA when the insecurity and its defenses are primarily internalized?
