I was booked into the patong merlin hotel from December the 22nd until the 2nd of January for mine and a friend's birthday on the 27th of December, my friend canceled last minute on the 19th of December, I did also as I didn't want to go on my own, we had a ground floor room and we would've been asleep at that time it hit, I cursed him for canceling... everything happens for a reason 🙏

I remember watching a video about this. The thing I remembered most was a young child, no more than 6 years old whom recognized it because he had learned about it in school the months before. He told his parents and they tried to tell others on the beach but they didn’t listen. Luckily that kid and his family got out of there.

I went to Aceh not long after for relief work. The entire city was leveled except for a few mosques and other well built structures. whole villages were leveled and only flat foundations were left. The tops of the coconut trees were ripped off. Aceh looled like a atom bomb ripped through it.
