My mother (Father was much worse) was like this up until she was elderly and needed me to take care of her. BUT, I also found at that she was loving and caring to most everyone else (friends, cousins, past coworkers, etc…) So, to them she was a sweet wonderful person. And, I was just the ungrateful terrible daughter to them. 😢

🦇Creepy🦇 :
once when I was an adult, my own daughter asked my mom and I why "grandma and mommy never hug like we do" (talking about me with my two daughters)
then my mom actually proceeds to tell her "your mommy has never liked to be hugged" But in reality... SHE'S the one who never hugged me when I was a child. SHE'S the reason I'm not a hugger.. but after I had my babies, it suddenly came so natural to me and I hug them and kiss them and love on them all the time.
so it was never me.

My mom was cold and distance and I became the overly loving mom!!! I refused for my kids to feel like I did.

The hugs they gave… felt like nothing was inside it, like a checkbox. It wasn’t something I ever had the thought “I need a hug from my mom” instead I thought “I need a mom” I still think this as an adult so I guess I just didn’t get to have a mom.

Why am I different? Why couldn't she be different than her Mom! My relationship with my kids is the opposite of what I had with her. Why!?!

Every. Single. Day. Of. My. Life. This sucks so badly. As daughters - we will always grieve the relationship we never had the chance to have

What is it called when the mother is like this with her child, but always takes on ‘orphans’ and treats them like surrogate children, even better than her own?

The "other mothers and daughters who get along" are my grandma, mother, two aunts, and my sister. I'm the only stranger in my family

I accepted 10 years ago that my mom did the best she could with how she was raised. (If you met her dad you would totally “get” it too) We still have a very business casual relationship. But to anyone reading this and still not at the acceptance stage: I was able to break the cycle and get back in touch with my emotional center and my nervous system. Realizing the lack of emotional connection really has nothing to do with you. Parents are just people. There is healing there that YOU can give yourself with no need for the parent to change.

My grandma was this person! My aunt was her also! They were very angry and mean. The kids are the same. Cousins are cold and rude and alcoholics and druggies. Grandma was a terrible person. We have so much trauma in our family
