Start normalizing it being ok to not allow people to pet your dog. Cosmo gets super stressed out by strangers approaching. We are keeping our distance for a reason.

As a pit mix owner, echoing the comments about small dogs and their behavior. He is reactive and we put in SO much work to work on his animal reactivity but that all goes out the window when other dogs start barking and getting aggressive towards him. I understand that dog is 20 lbs max and he’s 75 lbs. It’s intimidating to see a pitbull barking back. But he didn’t start it and they look at me like I unleashed a hell demon because he’s defending himself. Or unleashed dogs running up to us and everyone assuming that he’s friendly and their dogs not having any recall whatsoever. Just frustrating because it sets us back so far in training when these issues happen. 😩

People come up and think they can pet your dog without asking. They wouldn’t go up to a Police K9 and just pet it.

I’d like to see small dog owners actually train their dogs and hold them accountable. Too many times I’ll be out with my dog and small dogs just run up on him barking at him and the owners don’t say sorry or anything. Especially since I have a German Shepherd/Husky mix. And if he barks back at the small dogs; he’s considered the aggressive one and he’s not even aggressive.

People with smaller dogs off leash and letting them running up to larger dogs yelling "he's friendly.. he's friendly!" When the larger dog matches that energy they're at fault.

I think shelter dogs should be trainees as service dogs or emotional support animals. I know it requires resources and time, but imagine if most (because not all dogs have the temperament) those dogs can get proper training people who need them can get more affordable access, and there won’t be such long wait lists. Especially for veterans and survivors of traumatic events

off leash dogs. Who the heck let's Maltese and shih tzus run up to 100+malamutes and expects them not to get snatched up like a squeaky toy?? they chase critters (birds, rabbits, even armadillo, sometimes even the kids remote cars...) then they get mad because im literally snatching them out of their mouths (thankfully they havent done damage yet but....) while yanking both of them away.... its not a fun situation to be put in again and again...

Parents teaching their kids that running up on an animal can cause them to either bite or scratch and ask if they can touch them. Spay and neuter none breeding animals. Having more programs to help pay for spay and neuter.

I wish people would stop bring non service dogs into public. I had to retire mine because it was causing me more issues than not. People would yell in my face that he shouldn’t be there. I even started carrying my doctors note and his certification with me and still became issues. He was a service dog for a month. Now he stays home and helps at home only

Stricter regulations on breeding dogs and selling puppies. Registration lists, required health testing, housing requirements, education requirement, legal ramifications for illegal breeders. Complete ban on “luxury breed” mixes. We will continue to have a crisis surrounding shelter dogs, stray dogs, and animal abuse until the laws and practices change.
