I would have checked that person so fast. Someone asked why can’t my bag be checked and her bag go in the overhead. I told her cuz this plane doesn’t move unless my bags are there. That’s why.

I typically lock it before boarding starts unless I’m flying with one of those lunatic FAs who has to keep grabbing their giant tote and giant lunch box every 37 seconds. This man was trying to open it and when I turned around from my galley to look at him he said “is this locked?” And when I said yes (before I could say why) he yelled “well get over here and unlock it!” 😭😭😭 I was shocked lmao. Sir if you don’t fix that tone you and your bag are about to be stowed back in the terminal.
