I’m gonna finish up my MSW and then I’m immediately switching to get my PsyD. I’ll be a psychologist. I should have listened to my gut in undergrad but NOOOOO I just had to branch out and go to social work😒😂

I just want us to be realistic. I hate how some people on here act like taking a vow of poverty is the only way to be an ethical social worker, while others are shysters who fill people's heads with delusions about post grad salaries.

Back when I used to work inpatient, the therapists were the second highest educated (right under the doctors) but we were the second lowest paid in the hospital among the clinical staff - that was some absolute bs

I just finished my MSW and I got a job at our local mental health and recovery services board. The pay is above starting out in therapy and I’m so thankful for that. However, I am always looking for ways to expand my knowledge and income streams. Not sure what that will look like in the future but I’m here for it 😁

Listen my bag will always be filled and overflowing because that broke mindset never came with this license. My clients get exactly what they need and I refuse to take insurance. This a business not a charity.

Advice I was given by a supervisor who I, coincidentally, grew up with: "You should choose the hardest position you can, even if the pay is horrible, because the experience will be worth it." Meanwhile, she is a higher social class than me, has a family, is cis/het and white, and learned the struggles people have on the job. I think some of the people who push the "just be poor" shit are just privileged financially elsewhere.
