As a disabled wheelchair bound person, thank you! I still think, feel and love the same as everyone else. We also deserve to choose what medical procedures we will allow and will not allow. Thank you for bringing attention to this!

A dear friend who happens to be an orthopedic surgeon made this comment when Christopher Reeves died: he said he lived as long as he did as a quadriplegic because he had excellent care. It is apparent that your Mom also - as a 32 year quad - has had amazing care. Thankfully you are there to advocate for her. Sending you strength and comfort.

There is so much bias against people with disabilities. It’s frustrating when you come across this as a loved one. DNR/DNI does not mean hospice

When I was in rehab and just got trach out, they said hit button for help, so I did, they ask what did I need…I can’t talk…they wouldn’t come. 😂

As hard as it might have been to have your mom’s life change after her injury, having a paralyzed parent has given you a different viewpoint as a neurosurgeon. Makes you way more aware and caring. I know that’s not easy when you have a physician brain. Thank you for sharing the difficult parts. Knowledge is powerful.

Yes, a and it’s the same when you have a child who is mentally disabled. We all share the same human worth and shouldn’t be treated appropriately. I’m glad you use your platform to advocate for your mom and for your patients.💕

YES! DNR does not mean DO NOT TREAT!! I had to explain that to many student RN’s over the years I worked at the bedside MICU nurse. People get so confused as to why we are “doing anything” when someone is a DNR. Unless the person is experiencing cardiac/respiratory arrest, assume standard treatment pathways. Some DNR/DNI will have personalization to them (i.e. ok w/ pressors, ok w/ heart pacing, etc) but those are usually in life-threatening circumstances.

Very frustrating I totally understand! Everytime we'd go in the hospital with my dad theyd think hes miserable he should just die!!! Very frustrating because he was a normal person just sick thats why he was there in the hospital. Only us who have someone with a disability will understand the frustration we go through going into the hospitals! 😔
